SafeHire

SafeHire is the HSE recognised hire industry standard for high levels of health, safety and customer service provision.

For builders, contractors, local authorities or any hire customer, it helps to be able to identify those hire company members who achieve a higher than average standards across the hire role – in safety, training and specialism in hire equipment. The Association considers SafeHire to be the ultimate in hiring and a target that all hire companies should aspire to achieve. For customers looking for the cream of the hire industry, they look to those with a SafeHire certification.

SafeHire helps hire companies establish a clear safety drive across the entire operation and members highlight the benefits with their customers assured that good safety practice is adhered to throughout the hire company. The safety principles outlined in the scheme have been developed in conjunction with HSE and many other bodies to meet the highest levels of performance.

When customers, local authorities or specialised industries are looking for that level of value added from a hire company, their requirements often exceed the norm – this may be in levels of health and safety awareness or potential risks on site, moving of goods, application tools. Tenders for these types of projects have a requirement from hire providers and SafeHire assurances help hire companies to meet that requirement. For example, SafeHire certificated companies are automatically entered onto the CHAS database (The Contractors Health & Safety Assessment Scheme).

SafeHire certified companies will have:

  • a high level of health and safety knowledge and procedures

  • well trained staff to support the customer

The Association has put many years of hard work into the package to get it right for all sizes. It is regularly updated to incorporate latest legislation and concerns. Everything is included: Health and Safety policy documents, injury reporting systems (RIDDOR), First Aid, Risk Assessments, staff and customer training matrix, staff induction forms, employee handbooks. All these essential items are written and designed for hirers and focus on the key areas to improve safety for customers and staff.
