Last week, HAE EHA attended the Image of Construction 2018 Show in support of the Construction Dust Partnership (CDP); represented by Training Development Officer Stuart Tyrrell who provided visitors to the stand with Virtual Reality demonstrations of the V-Hire Dust Awareness Module.
The Image of Construction show pulls together various organisations and speakers to address and try to improve the public’s perception of the construction sector. Supporters include charities and non-profit organisations who provide services such as healthcare (including mental health), analytics and training & development services.
Also attending to represent CDP were Hazel Langley of the Industrial Cleaning Machine Manufacturers Association (ICMMA), Charles Shaw of tool manufacturer Makita UK and Phil Haskins of dust extraction specialist Dustcontrol UK - both representing the European Power Tools Association (EPTA).
Charles and Phil delivered a presentation which included some facts and figures on the true levels of dust exposure that construction workers typically experience, and what technology exists to minimise risks. The presentation was well received by those who attended, with many coming forward to say how much better informed they now were on the subject.
Charles Shaw commented: “Phil and I took many questions from those in attendance. All commented on the fact that they were not aware of the gravity of the subject nor the controls. There was a general lack of knowledge, more emphasis seems to have been placed on the use of RPE and PPE which many construction professionals are comfortable with as it the easy, effortless solution.”
Throughout the day the CDP stand drew large numbers of visitors, with many keen to try the VR equipment. The CDP felt audience engagement was high and overall the event was a success.
